Top Trends Deciphered : Spring/Summer 2014
From Runway to Everyday
Sheer – As seen at Burberry Prorsum (Photo Below), 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Theyskens’ Theory
Whether it’s shape, age, career, sheer pieces can be hard because they are not easily wearable for everyone. They have done a great job this season by creating sheer pieces that are more wearable. You can always throw on a slip, cami, etc to avoid being too “scandalous.” Many brands this season have also created collections that envelop some if not all of the trends, such as, Burberry Prorsum (sheer, embellished, floral, pastel).
Pastels – As seen at Rebecca Taylor, John Galliano, Burberry Prorsum, Miu Miu, Chloe, Christopher Kane (Photo Below)
This is a very soft and elegant look for the spring/summer season. Create an effortless look with going tonal (which has been a major feature with many brands). You can take this from day (Button down or blouse with trousers) and then for night (add some fun jewelry or shoes, maybe throw in a metallic)! You can also do pastel light sweaters mixed with skirts and pants for an easy look.
Florals – As seen at BCBG, Dolce & Gabbana, Suno, Michael Kors, Peter Som, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney (Photo Below), Mary Katrantzou
Floral prints have always been a trend for spring/summer seasons, but this year the florals are louder with sophistication and freshness. Sometimes florals can be overwhelming, so I recommend limiting your accessories.
Embellishments – As seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim (Photo Below), Christian Dior, J Crew, French Connection
Embellishments are always around, whether on your shoes, bags, clothes. An easy way of getting this look is don’t go too trendy. Find pieces with accents that could easily work with your wardrobe for seasons to come. 3.1 Phillip Lim did a great job by adding a small embellished detail on the sleeve. This makes the piece more versatile and keeps it clean and classic.
Metallics – As seen at Lanvin, Altuzarra (Photo Below), Givenchy, Haider Ackermann, 3.1 Phillip Lim
Not everyone can pull off wearing metallics for an everyday look, but you can easily tone it down by layering! It’s also a great versatile style, going from day to evening. Or if this look is too “flashy” why not keep it simple and accessorize with metallics. The look below is great because it carries the trend. It’s not too trendy and it’s still classy and chic.
