Learn about WBD’s new featured Hair Expert Leanne Cordeiro

WBD:What inspired you to start doing hair and how did you get started?

I have been interested in doing hair as long as I can remember. I was so interested in how you could manipulate a look to create something completely different. I did anyones hair who let me. By grade 10, I did 3 girls hair for their grad and by grade 12 I did my first wedding! After that, I bought my first pair of hair cutting shears and was able to follow a hair cut, but my real passion was for styling which is still one of my favorite parts of my job.

WBD:What do you love most about your job?

What I love most about doing hair is the creative side, being able to change a whole look with a cut, color or style, or all of the above. It’s fun, exciting and creative. I also love getting to meet so many new and interesting people. Β No one could have prepared me for the true relationships and friendships that I would to create with my guests. Now, as a salon owner, I love the challenge of growing a team of stylists. I do a 6 month apprenticeship with all of my new stylists and I love being able to teach my craft to people that are just as excited and passionate to be in this industry.

WBD:What hair products or tools could you not live without?

I could never live without a curling iron and hair spray. Ever. You can get as much or as little texture from one curling iron (I will teach in months to come) and finish every look with hair spray to ensure it will last. One more thing! I could never live without dry shampoo. Washing your hair is so over rated, I will teach you how to get over that and how to have better hair days – EVERY day!

WBD:What advice do you have for people aspiring to do what you’re doing?

I really believe in the old saying, “find what you love to do and then figure out a way to make money doing it”. I was passionate about doing this from a young age and I just threw myself into it and worked on as many people that would let me. I constantly looked at the latest trends and styles and figured out how to create them. When you’re excited and passionate about something it shows in everything you do and you will attract all the right people.
