WBD: What sparked your interest in Craft Brewing and how did you guys get started?
My first name is Oland, same as a brewery here. So was interested in beer from the start. I sold/installed and trained brewers for DME. Meet my wife while doing an install in Khazakstan. I learned on others dime, convinced my wife, and took the leap.
WBD: What is your favorite part of your job?
I handle the brewery, Lilia the brewpub(s). I enjoy the marketing, financials and getting production up. To hear nice things about our beer, and peoples experience.
WBD: Do you have a new style of beer coming out soon that you’re excited about?
Just launched an IPA and a Pilsner, and both are beginning to rear their head.
WBD: How did the name “Pump House Brewery” come to be?
I was a Captain in the fire dept for 27.5 years. So the hydrant and name became central to our theme.
WBD: What are the biggest challenges in running a brewery?
QC, Financials, and as all businesses. Personnel.
WBD: What’s your favorite thing about what you guys do?
To get out from the brewery and meet our customers face to face and that interface is so uplifting, and good for the company.
WBD: What advice do you have for someone wanting to start down your path?
Be committed, listen to your customers. Design a ‘team’ to get the beer in the bottle.
