Icona Pop Doesn’t Care!
By Anna Hedegaard
There is no such thing as a guilty pleasure according to the recently rising pop group, Icona Pop. With, “I don’t care!” as the hook-line-and-sinker catch phrase of their recent hit song, why should they?
Blasting to worldwide fame with their double-platinum single, “I Love It,” band members Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo describe Icona Pop as a happy mixture of catchy dance beats infused with deeper, more reflective life stories. “Take a second listen. We’ve been disguising stories in happy melodies,” says Caroline. Like the time they crashed their car into a bridge, perhaps?
This Swedish synchpop duo met at a party one night, and it was love-at-first-sight. “We just knew that we would hang for the rest of our lives,” Caroline reflects on that night and Aino agrees. “It was so strong that the day after, we met up … and wrote our first song.”
The dynamic duo knew it would be only a matter of time before Icona Pop became a Big Deal! on the music scene. It’s hard to miss the creative chemistry between these two – in and out of the recording studio, even when their recording studio is “in weird places” while they are out on tour.
With diverse music influences and talented family backgrounds, the duo forms a rich partnership as their styles continue to coalesce together – mixing into the enjoyable experience now known as Icona Pop.
Look forward to seeing Icona Pop alongside pop stars Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry in upcoming music festivals where they will showcase more of their style, songs, and musical creativity for a true Icona Pop experience. “To be a part of those girl power tours is going to be an amazing thing,” says Caroline.
