You’re A Big Deal: MICK

Exclusive interview with MICK

Hometown: Poland, OH

Occupation: Deejay and Investor

WBD: What sparked your interest in music and how did you get started?

I grew up loving all types of music… and played drums and piano as a kid. This led me down the path of DJ’ing. I finally got some equipment, and it was a fun new journey from there.

WBD: Describe your production style in 3 words.

New meets vintage.

WBD: Who are your biggest musical influences?

Red Hot Chili Peppers. Biggie. Jane’s Addiction. Pete Rock. James Brown. Ahmad Jamal.

WBD: What is your favorite part of performing live?

Watching the crowd go apeshit when I play the right song and the right time. It’s amazing.

WBD: Tell us one of the coolest things that’s happened in your career so far.

Working with some of my idols. Traveling the world. Meeting my wife. That should probably be number 1… lol.

WBD: Favorite gig?

So many. NYE in Miami a few years ago outside at a park for like 10k people was nuts. Spinning in Tokyo is always fun, because they appreciate so much music. The Do-Over parties are always a great time too.

WBD: What’s coming up for you that you’re excited about?

It’s event season now, so it’s super busy. It’s usually Sundance and Grammys and Super Bowl and NBA All-Star back to back. So it’s kinda insane. Plus, I just did a Germany tour at the end of February.

WBD: Who would you love to work with and why?

James Brown. The funkiest. Ever.

WBD: What part of your DJ gear could you not live without? (brand included)

My custom Apple MickBook – not a Mac Book!

WBD: What advice do you have for aspiring DJ’s?

Work hard. Be creative. Be a GREAT human being.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?
Paris and Brooklyn. I love Paris and I already live in and love Brooklyn. I'd love to split my time.
If I gave you $20 to spend on anything right now, what would it be?
Mac and cheese.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise people.
I read comic books obsessively.
What advice would you give to your 15 year old self?
Don't believe it's impossible, because it's quite possible.
One guilty pleasure you aren't willing to give up?
Carbs before bed… lol.
